Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Moving Into Melrose Place

And Here We Were Hoping For Another Album & Awkward SNL Jig . . .

altPete Wentz will be on daddy day care duty with baby Bronx Mogley for a while.  Wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has signed the lease and will be ringing the doorbell at the newly renovated apartment building on Melrose Place.

The "Pieces of Me" singer and former 7th Heaven star has been cast on the CW's latest 90s redux.  Evidently they don't have the budget for new ideas.

Ashlee will play Violet Foster, a small town gal whose wide-eyed charm hides her shrewd, plotting nature.  Such a description draws obvious comparisons to Amy Locane's blond Sandy Harling in the original series, but there's no telling what hue kaleidoscope-haired Simpson-Wentz will take for Violet.  Can Ash pull off the part?  Well, she played the part of a rocker chick and managed to sell millions of albums so her thesp skills are finely honed.

The new mom joins Supernatural's Katie Cassidy and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' Michael Rady in the luxury apartment building.  Former The O.C. star Mischa Barton remains a possibility, though the pathetically self-promotional blogger reportedly threw a snit when she was denied a free pass and was told she would have to audition for a part.

As for the original MP residents, "It's looking good" for Heather Locklear to reprise her witch-in-heels role, according to a source.  And let's hope Lisa Rinna gets a call before she stops begging and just crashes the set holding a "Will Work for Collagen" sign.
