Top Five Shows To See During LG Fashion Week

1. LABEL
New
to The Runway, Toronto based designers Natalie Sydoruk and Shawna
Robinson bring their modern, polished causal wear to LGFW this season.
LABEL reinvents the basics by updating each wardrobe staple with
unique and subtle details. Why should you go see the show? First of
all, the styling is sure to be phenomenal with such a simple yet strong
and cohesive collection. Second, LABEL will be showing exclusive new
handbags from their collaboration with up and coming accessories
designer, The Leather Atelier who will also provide accessories from
her very own collection.
2. Chloe Comme Parris
Sisters
and design partners, Chloé and Parris Gordon blew everyone out of the
stands last season with their debut runway presentation. The girls
studied design at NSCAD in Nova Scotia and their skill was undeniable.
The menswear inspired but feminine silhouettes seemed both athletic
wear and military inspired in the details. From utility jackets to
sweatpants to sheer flowing skirts the collection was fresh, exciting
and practical. Why should you go see the show? Well, to see if the
Gordon sisters can outdo themselves this season. And to shop – the
clothes are sure to be as striking as last time, meaning excellent
additions to any boring wardrobe.
3. LINE Knitwear
John
Muscat and Jennifer Wells have successfully revolutionized the face of
knitwear (along with fellow Canadian, Mark Fast). LINE has gotten more
and more forward with each season, continuously pushing design
possibilities to the max. Their exaggerated details, draping, and
embellishments have impressed many and livened up the knitwear market.
Last season the collection expanded outside of knits into leathers,
silks and stunning prints. But it was the knit fringed dresses that
left show-goers speechless. Why go this time around? Because Muscat and
Wells have said that their fall collection is for the modern nomad or
“migrant muse” and according to FASHION magazine, will consist of
“layers of chunky cabled knits, plenty of patchwork prints, accented by
luxurious touches of fur and leather.”
4. Amanda Lew Kee
Last
season, 22-year-old Amanda Lew Kee proved that she is not just another
Ryerson grad. Her obscure and sophisticated showing was an interesting
take on the runway presentation with models stopping mid-runway to pose
on a pedestal in their sheer, neutral toned sheath dresses. The young
designer first gained recognition from her rather different debut
collection involving lots of well-tailored leathers, sharp shoulders
and edgy spike trimmed sleeves. There was quite the hype around last
season’s show and she managed to follow through with an equally edgy
yet surprisingly more feminine follow-up collection. Why attend this
time around? To see how Lew Kee plans on surprising show-goers this
season.
5. Denis Gagnon (pictured above)
The
obvious choice for must-see show, however, this Montreal native has
become somewhat of a king when it comes to LGFW. His shows are always
highly anticipated for the extravagant talent that is inevitably
displayed. Surely the next Canadian superstar (if not, already),
Gagnon’s precise cuts and “couture” approach to leather set him apart.
Last season’s luxurious layers of silk fringe earned him lots of
well-deserved attention. His pieces are the most like individual works
of art as they storm down the runway. Why go see the show? Do I have to
tell you? It may be at an inconvenient time but it will definitely be
well worth it.
